Scout Willis speaks out after sharing Bruce’s dad’s dementia
Scout Willis said she was “overwhelmed” after she and her family revealed that her father, Bruce Willis, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Taking to her Instagram story late Thursday to let fans know her feelings, Scout shared a selfie wearing a cozy hoodie and wrote: “Feeling emotionally tired and a little overwhelmed but at the same time full of admiration for the love so many people have for my dad. “
Scout, 31, received additional support from her sisters, Rumer Willis and Tallulah Willis, who re-shared their story on their accounts and reiterated that they are “grateful” for the support that has poured in since their announcement.
“Secondly, this Scouter feels abundant love for our guy and our family,” Tallulah, 29, wrote.
“It has to be said that Scouter and Buusk feel so deeply grateful and full of admiration for the love they have for our sweet Daddio,” added Rumer, 34.
The Die Hard star’s entire family, including ex-wife Demi Moore, issued a joint statement Thursday afternoon explaining the “cruel” diagnosis he finally received after initially being told he was suffering from aphasia.
“Today there is no cure for this disease, a reality that we hope may change in the coming years,” the family wrote. “As Bruce’s condition progresses, we hope that media attention can be focused on shedding light on this disease that needs much more awareness and research.”
The group explained that Bruce, 67, was unable to react to his situation, but said that if he “could”, he would express gratitude for the love he had received.
“Bruce has always found joy in life – and has helped everyone he knows to do the same,” the family wrote. “It meant the world saw that sense of care echoing from him and all of us.”
The retired actor shares Scout, Rumer (who is pregnant with her first child) and Tallulah with Moore, to whom he was married from 1987-2000.
Bruce and current wife Emma Heming, whom he married in 2009, have daughters Mabel, 10, and Evelyn, 8.
